Tossa De Mar
Cheap Holidays to Tossa De Mar
This typically Catalan town on the Costa Brava has bags of atmosphere, thanks to its old town. The Vila Vella, as it’s known, is all cobbled streets and traditional houses – there’s even an ancient castle. The surrounding countryside, meanwhile, is some of the prettiest in the Costa Brava, with mountains and valleys to explore. Plus you’ve got not 1 but 2 big, sandy beaches to hop between.
The town’s main beach, Playa Gran, is a large horseshoe bay with golden sands that shelve into warm, blue waters. You’ve got all the amenities here, including watersports, and loungers and umbrellas for rent. It’s all topped off with some sterling castle views. And when hunger hits, you can take your pick from the bars and cafés on the prom.
You’re 95 kilometres north of Spain’s most cosmopolitan city, Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia. There’s so much to explore here, not least a Medieval Gothic quarter and Gaudi’s celebrated cathedral, La Sagrada Familia. After that you can sit outside a pavement café and watch the street performers on the country’s most famous street, Las Ramblas.

What are the beaches like in Tossa de Mar?
There are some fantastic beaches both in Tossa de Mar and the surrounding area, the most popular of which is the Platja Gran. This is a very clean and quiet beach with a relaxed atmosphere, plenty of space for sunbathing and a gorgeous landscape featuring lush green trees and clear blue waters. If you prefer a more quiet and secluded beach, try the Cala Llevado, a picture-perfect sandy cove nestled in a pine forest, just a short drive from Tossa de Mar. Cala Llevado is relatively unknown, meaning you won’t have to wrestle for sunbathing space and can let the kids explore the beach. The calm waters off the coastline are popular with snorkelers and are great for paddling with the kids. While there are no showers or beach bars at Cala Llevado, there are both at Cala Carles, which has a bigger cove and good facilities.
Whats the nightlife like in Tossa de Mar?
Tossa de Mar’s nightlife is quiet compared to nearby Lloret de Mar, making it ideal for intimate nights out as a couple or as a family. The generally quiet nightlife doesn’t mean that there’s a shortage of disco or bars though, with most of the nightlife based around the main promenade on the seafront. If you’re holidaying as a couple and are looking for a bar with a slightly older crowd, try Bar Tahiti. A good club for all ages is Mar I Cel, which mostly draws locals and is bustling during the weekend. Chaplins disco in Calle Rosa Rissech draws mainly tourists and plays a wide selection of mainstream dance classics, with the floors completely packed in the peak summer months.
